The Johannesburg High Court has granted corruption accused Michael Lomas bail of R2 million.

Micheal Lomas and 11 others are facing over 40 counts of corruption linked to R1,4 billion, which was meant to upgrade Eskom’s Kusile power station in Mpumalanga between 2014 and 2017.
The 77-year-old was extradited from the United Kingdom in September last year.
“The court ordered that his United Kingdom passport and his South African Identity document be surrendered to the investigating officer,” said Investigating Directorate Against Corruption spokesperson Henry Mamothame, who added that Lomas would reside at a care home where he will be provided with the necessary assistance.
Lomas previously told the court that he experienced severe dizziness and blackouts, which led him injured himself in prison.
He had already left the country in 2019 when his four co-accused were arrested, sparking the extradition process.
The businessman was arrested in the UK in 2021 and released on R1.7 million bail.
After his extradition was sealed between the two countries in January last year, Lomas made five appeals to oppose his return to South Africa.
