Lowered mathematics pass mark fake news: DBE
Updated | By OFM News
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has disputed claims on social media suggesting that the mathematics pass mark has been reduced to 20%.

The department says these claims are false and misleading.
Basic education's spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga says there is no change to the minimum pass rate for pupils from grades 7 to 12.
In 2016, Minister Angie Motshekga made a special concession for Grades 7 to 9 pupils who had passed all the requisite subjects except for mathematics to be promoted to the next grade.
The move was part of a transitional arrangement following the implementation of Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) in senior phase schools.
Mhlanga notes that the spreading of fake or old news is misleading and irresponsible.
