Mahungela is accused of killing Sandton jogger Kirsten Kluyts in October 2023.

The outcome of the decision of the director of public prosecutions on Mahungela’s representations was announced on Thursday morning.
The state confirmed the DPP had rejected the representations made by Mahungela’s legal team, in which they made a case for the kidnapping, murder, and robbery charges against him to be dropped.
According to them, the DNA of a woman was found under the nails of the deceased, suggesting she may have had an altercation with a woman shortly before she died.

But the state believes it has reasonable prospects for success.
Kluyts' lifeless body was found at the bottom of an embankment at the George Leah Park, after she failed to meet the cutoff time at a park run.
Mahungela has been denied bail several times; however, his lawyers say they intend to bring another bail application on new facts.
A trial date has been set for 13 October.
