Makhubele, Nchabeleng sworn in as MKP MPs

Former Johannesburg Council Speaker Colleen Makhubele has officially been sworn in as a member of Parliament for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

She was sworn in on Tuesday alongside Adil Nchabeleng.  


Makhubele joined the MK Party after resigning from the South African Rainbow Alliance, a party she founded following her dismissal from COPE.


MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela described the two appointments as “a milestone that reinforces the party's commitment to transformative policies, socio-economic justice, and national progress”.


"The MK Party has high expectations for these leaders as they embark on their parliamentary journey and we wish them well. Both are tasked with advancing the MK Party's vision of radical socioeconomic transformation, prioritizing policies that address land expropriation without compensation, youth empowerment, and energy security.


"Their presence in Parliament will amplify the voices of the marginalized, ensuring the MK Party remains a formidable force for justice and economic freedom," he said.


 Ndhlela said Makhubele brings a wealth of experience in governance and leadership.


"An accomplished public servant and MBA graduate, Ms Makhubele brings a wealth of experience in governance and leadership.


“Her proven track record aligns seamlessly with the MK Party's vision of people-centred development and transformative change," adds  Ndhlela


Makhubele also released a statement, describing the appointment as “a higher calling”.


"There is no higher calling and no greater honor than to be called to serve your nation at the highest level as a legislator, a Member of Parliament.


“It’s a rare occasion not afforded to many in their lifetime.    


“My prayer is to make proud of this historic and glorious movement, make the millions of voters who have put their trust and confidence in the the only the spear of the nation, Umkhonto We Sizwe Party.


“This is an example of what unity of progressive forces can produce and seeks to achieve: put the best possible talent in the best position to serve the country and rebuild our broken nation," said Makhubele.


Meanwhile, Nchabeleng’s appointment has been celebrated for his potential to contribute to South Africa’s socio-economic reforms.
