Malusi Booi granted R250k bail in tender fraud case

Former Cape Town MMC for Human Settlements Malusi Booi has been granted bail of R250,000.

The former DA Mayco member appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for a ruling on his application for bail.
Booi and his nine co-accused are accused of being involved in a R1 billion tender fraud within the City of Cape Town's Human Settlements directorate.
The group is facing charges of money laundering, racketeering, corruption and extortion fraud.
“The applicant is prohibited to make contact directly or indirectly with any witness for the state till the matter is finalised. The applicant is prohibited from leaving the Republic of South Africa for the full duration of the case until it is finalised,” said Magistrate Alida Theart.
“The applicant is further prohibited from leaving the Eastern Cape where he resides without contacting the investigating officer, disclosing full information of where he would be travelling to, the duration and when he would return.
“The case is now postponed for the 16th of October for further investigations as well as adding some co-accused. Accused number one to ten in custody already fixing an amount for bail with the conditions.”
