Man accused of killing Wits student Asithandile Zozo abandons bail bid

The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and Wits University student Asithandile "Kwasa" Zozo has abandoned his bid for bail.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape says 22-year-old Viwe Rulumeni made his second court appearance in the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Rulumeni is accused of assaulting, choking and stabbing Kwasa in full view of several people on August 17.
After the attack, he tried to commit suicide by drinking a pesticide chemical.

NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says they have added an additional charge of attempted murder.
"He has abandoned his application for bail and the matter has been postponed.
"The state has also added an additional charge of attempted murder in relation to his attempt to take his life.”
He is expected to appear in court again on October 6.
