Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s wife Princess Irene passes away

The wife of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has died.

In a statement, the Buthelezi family says Princess Irene Audrey Thandekile Buthelezi died at her home at KwaPhindangene in KwaZulu-Natal after a long illness.
The princess was married to the IFP leader for 67 years.

She was 89-years-old and is survived by her husband, three sons and five daughters.
"The family requests that our privacy be respected as the necessary arrangements are made for the funeral, the date for which will be announced in due course," the statement read.
