The Hawks in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a gang of 20 suspects who robbed a cash-in-transit van in Mhala on Saturday.

The armoured vehicle, belonging to Fidelity Security, was transporting money from retail outlets around Thulamahashe to the depot when the vehicle was attacked.
Hawks spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi said the driver of the cash van’s escort vehicle was shot and injured.
"The two Polos followed the armoured vehicle and shot at it until it stopped. The suspects forced the driver and the crew out of the vehicle and pushed them into the bushes. The firearms of the crew were also taken.
"About 20 suspects, all wearing balaclavas, gloves, bulletproof vests and were Zulu-speaking, attacked the armoured vehicle.
"The suspects blew the armoured vehicle twice with explosives, and an undisclosed amount of money was taken. The suspects fled the scene in the direction of Dwarsloop.”
Sekgotodi said community members descended to the crime scene and looted the remainder of the loose money that was scattered around.
"A case docket for cash in transit robbery, attempted murder and armed robbery was registered for further investigation.”
