The postponement is to allow for the case to be moved to the High Court in Pretoria.

Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one of money laundering relating to allegations she solicited and received bribes worth over R2 million from an army contractor during her tenure as defence minister.

The allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula were brought forward by well-known defence industry businesswoman Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu - who is the sole director of logistics company Umkhombe Marine, which did business with the South African National Defence Force.

Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu claimed she paid bribes totalling some R2 million to Mapisa-Nqakula.

Magistrate VL Mahlangu said the former minister’s bail conditions remained the same.

"You have been served with an indictment by the prosecution to appear at the North Gauteng High Court. The matter is therefore referred to the North Gauteng High Court for summary trial, which will be on October 16.

"Your bail is extended on the condition that at 09:30 on the 16th of October, you appear at the court, and you will remain in attendance. The bail conditions that were set on the 4th of April when you appeared in court are still in operation without any amendments.”
