South African sports fans are questioning the axing of well-known sports soccer presenter and TV anchor, Robert Marawa.

He lit up social media on Thursday night when he tweeted that he had received a text message telling him not to go to the SuperSport studios, hours before the broadcast of the show, "Thursday Night Live".
"I received a text around 18H50 tonight informing me that I should not bother coming to studio for Thursday Night Live with Marawa on @SuperSportTV," Marawa tweeted.
"I would like to thank all those who have supported my journey as a Sportscaster & those I've worked with at Supersport."
When asked by his followers for more details, Marawa tweeted: "One day u will ALL know. It will cost me my life but u will know"

SuperSport released a short statement on Friday morning, saying Marawa was already informed about the decision not to renew his contract earlier this week.
"SuperSport is in the process of an exciting refresh of its local presenter line-up, which will be unveiled as part of our new football season campaign. "This restructure includes us not pursuing our contractual relationship with Robert Marawa. Robert was personally advised of our decision earlier this week."
The statement concludes by saying "We are grateful for his contribution over the years and wish him great success in his future endeavors."
Many have taken to social media to support the legendary sports broadcaster.
So this happened a few years back but it has Top South African football boys written all over it. A few years ago they tried to make Robert Marawa go join Sundowns as a CEO. Now this was gonna mute him from being the good journalist he is. #RobertMarawa #SuperSport

Robert Marawa has been on PSL’s back after docking of points for Sundowns but he doesn’t buy face. He criticizes PSL & Khoza took offense and within that critics Kaizer Chiefs of how they’re firing players if players don’t want to be bullied in signing contracts. #RobertMarawa
