Mashaba: Maybe ANC did not have money to win motion of no confidence
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has slammed the African National Congress (ANC) after it withdrew a motion of no confidence against him on Thursday.

The ANC, which brought a second motion against Mashaba in council on Thursday, made a U-turn by withdrawing the motion.
This decision did not sit well with Mashaba, who labelled the ANC’s attempts as a waste of time.

“Up to yesterday they issued a statement that they have 145 votes in council, but perhaps they did not have enough money from CR 17 to buy enough votes,” he said.
“Maybe they made the commitment and did not come with the money. What was the reason for them all of a sudden to actually waste our time?”
The ANC’s Jolidee Matongo says while organisation stands by its wish to remove Mashaba there are a few boxes it needs to tick before going ahead with the next motion.
“We are not cancelling the motion, the motion is withdrawn for now and will serve at the September meeting.”
