Mashatile warns against misuse of state institutions
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has warned against the use of state resources to fight political battles ahead of the ANC's elective conference in 2027.

Mashatile, the party’s deputy president, is seen as one of the favourites to succeed Cyril Ramaphosa.
Last year, Mashatile was accused of having lied under oath to the Mahikeng High Court when he admitted to having allegedly submitted a fake ANC national executive committee resolution, which led to the adoption of the results of the North West ANC elective conference in 2022.
The question was asked by EFF leader Julius Malema in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon.
"I'll always be concerned if there are signs that there are politicians or public representatives that try to use state institutions for their personal interests, no matter what party,” Mashatile said.
"We will guard against that. So my advice to those who are going to conferences from any party, go and contest at the conference. Don't want somebody else to do some work for you.
"Go there and convince the delegates that you are a suitable candidate,” he said with a chuckle.
