Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina has called for calm following the fatal shooting involving a member of the city’s metro police department.

A 41-man from Vosloorus was gunned down in his backyard following a visit to a local tavern on Sunday.
Four children were also injured during the shooting.
The metro police official and a security guard were arrested for murder and attempted murder following the man’s killing.
Masina’s spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe says both suspects were nabbed on the day of the incident.
“The South African Police Service and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate are currently investigating the matter. We call upon the residents of Ekurhuleni to remain calm following the fatal shooting in Vosloorus,” says Mbengashe.
Mbengashe says they are concerned about visuals depicting the use of excessive use of force against residents.
“We call upon the relevant authorities to ensure that the enforcement of the nationwide lockdown is applied equally across all communities, rich and poor, black and white.”
Masina is set to visit the victim’s family as well as the children who were injured in the incident.
