Masina condemns SACP, Cosatu over Zuma

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina has condemned trade union federation Cosatu and the South African Communist Party (SACP) for its treatment of President Jacob Zuma.

Cosatu has barred President Zuma from speaking at its rallies, while both the federation and the SACP have asked the president to step down.
Speaking at the Ukhonto We Sizwe Military Veterans (MKMVA) conference on Friday, Masina says this is not how the tripartite alliance works.
“This new phenomenon from the SACP and Cosatu to seek to dictate to the ANC who must lead the party is foreign and must be condemned in the strongest terms. This alliance was not formed by friends coming together, this alliance was formed through blood and sweat and we will not allow it to be hijacked by individuals who want to move away from it.”
At the same time he appealed to President Zuma to ask the Gupta family to allow ANC space to do its work.
“Comrade President, let’s ask the Guptas to give the ANC space to conduct the revolution. We don’t mean to choose friends for leaders of the ANC, but there is a limit to everything. People died for the ANC and this country we can’t surrender the sovereignty of the ANC. We want to appeal to some of the deployed cadres of the ANC to assist the ANC as we go through these difficulties. We know you have friends in high places but all of us are required to be disciplined during this moment, we do not want to inherit an ANC that is disorganised,” says Masina.
