Maximum sentence for Henri van Breda
Convicted triple axe murderer, Henri van Breda has received the harshest possible sentende in the Western Cape High Court.
Judge Siraj Desai handed down sentence on Thursday morning.
The 23-year old Van Breda received the maximum life sentence each for the murder of his father, mother and brother.
During the sentencing, Desai described Van Breda as a cold blooded murderer.
"You have committed crimes with a degree of violence, the violence directed towards your own family. Killing three and causing serious harm to the fourth."
"The weapon used against the deceased and the injured was an axe. It was a cold blooded murder. The violence was excessive and gratuitous, it was intended to cause maximum harm. The three victims died by the wounds caused by the axe you wielded against them," he said.
Van Breda's defense indicated that he will apply for leave to appeal, which will be heard on 27 June 2018.
