Mbalula on Mkhwanazi: Whistleblowers must be protected
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the party is committed to the protection of whistleblowers.

His remarks on Monday came amid bombshell revelations of alleged political interference in police operations.
Mbalula called on President Ramaphosa to act urgently on the allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
"We call upon President Cyril Ramaphosa to act with the seriousness and urgency this matter demands."
Mkhwanazi alleges political interference by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in the disbandment of the political killings task team.
Mbalula briefed the media in Johannesburg on Monday.
"The ANC reaffirms its commitment to accountability, non-interference in law enforcement, and the full protection of whistleblowers, investigators, and officers of the law," he said.
"We must all work to ensure that the rule of law stands above any undue interference, intimidation, or abuse of power."
Mbalula also welcomed the hefty sentence on hitman Sibusiso Ncengwa, for the assassination of former ANC Youth League former Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa.
Ncengwa was handed down two life terms in prison. Magaqa was gunned down in uMzimkhulu in 2017, allegedly for exposing corruption in the local municipality.
"This sentencing reaffirms the principle that no act of political violence will go unpunished. This ruling sends a strong message that our democracy will not tolerate violence as a means of silencing any voices," Mbalula told reporters.
