Mchunu to appear before ANC's Integrity Commission
The ANC's secretary general says that at this stage, the party's step-aside rule does not apply to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
His motives for disbanding the KZN political killings task team had been called into question by the province's police chief.
Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi raised concerns over alleged criminal and political interference within the SAPS.
He also claimed the dissolution of the task team came after members uncovered a powerful criminal syndicate involving politicians, police officers, prosecutors, members of the judiciary, and businessmen.
Mchunu has denied this.
The ANC's secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, said Mchunu will appear before the party's integrity commission to state his case.
"Our step-aside rules do not allow us to force anyone to step aside unless they have been arrested. There are no unilateral decisions made based on rumours and allegations. They, too, are given the right to respond.
“Should the ANC arrive at a decision in whatever way based on the reports of the integrity commission, the NEC will pronounce on those."
He spoke outside the home of the late former deputy president David Mabuza on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza says she's considering requests from political parties for a snap debate on the issue.
