Mchunu denies Masemola arrest reports

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has denied any knowledge of the supposed imminent arrest of National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.

Reports suggest Masemola misused a R600 million informant fund for questionable building purchases.
The report in the City Press also allege that four senior security cluster sources indicated the move to arrest Masemola is at an advanced stage, with investigators probing the multimillion-rand purchase of four buildings by Crime Intelligence.
According to sources close to the investigation, the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has prepared charges against Masemola and others related to corruption and maladministration.
Central to the probe is the police’s decision to acquire five buildings without following the required procurement process through the Department of Public Works, which oversees government property acquisitions based on departmental needs.
“We plead with the media to avoid any speculation on this as speculation of this nature has an adverse impact on the named person and also has an effect of destabilising the work of the South African Police Service,” said the minister’s spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi.
