On Saturday, police found four bodies with gunshot wounds and burns, while eight others were injured, with one later succumbing to their injuries in hospital.

Reports indicate that a confrontation between the patrollers and five individuals escalated into violence.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the cold-blooded murders and criminality that took place in Marry Me. These unarmed members of the community were committed against crime and improving the safety of their community,” Mchunu said on Monday.

“We will not allow such criminality to undermine the safety of our communities. We also call upon the residents of Marry Me and surrounding areas to work closely with the police and provide any information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators,” he added.

On Sunday, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi visited the community and affected families, confirming that the case is now under investigation by provincial police.

“There has been a declaration by the police to hunt those who have committed this horrendous crime within the next 72 hours,” Lesufi said.

Lesufi expressed his satisfaction with the police’s actions so far, highlighting that he was thoroughly briefed on the evidence and progress.

“I must say, I am impressed with the information gathering, and I’m further impressed with what they have done in the last 24 hours. They have also provided a clear plan of action for the remaining hours,” Lesufi remarked.

Lesufi pledged to return to the community on Wednesday with the relevant MECs to provide feedback.
