Mphahlele was shot dead during a confrontation with police and private security during a housing protest in Marlboro on Sunday.
The 39-year-old was an EFF regional leader and councillor in the City of Johannesburg.
The funeral is expected to be held in his hometown of Ga-Mphahlele, in Limpopo, on Friday.
He was the son of Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele
The father described him as a hardworking and focused child.
