Midrand fire victims now sleeping at taxi rank

Some victims of the Midrand Broadwalk Urban Village building fire, say they have not been given alternative accommodation by the landlord since a fire ripped through the building earlier this week.

The blaze on Tuesday night, killed one woman and left several people injured.
The City of Johannesburg has launched an investigation into the fire that gutted 130 units.
One of the tenants says he has been sheltering at the local taxi rank with his family.
'Dominic' said on the night of the fire, he managed to escape with his wife and their child.
On Friday, Jacaranda FM visited the fire ravaged building and found a group of residents still stranded at the entrance.
"Since the incident happened, to be honest, we have not received any support from the landlord,'' he said.
"Myself, my wife and my child (3), we don't have a place to stay. I wish someone can see where we are sleeping at night. It's not even safe for us to sleep around somewhere at the taxi rank," he adds.
"Meanwhile, we were not even owing rent - we were not owing this landlord. We paid our rent. It's like they have abandoned us," he exclaims. "People from outside are supporting us with food."
Attempts to get comment from Mafadi Property Management has been unsuccessful.
He says he lost all his belongings in the fire, personal identity documents. #MidrandFire pic.twitter.com/68bPnxwcmV
