Miner cross-examination resumes
Lawyers for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will cross-examine a miner who was shot and wounded on August 16 last year, at the Farlam Commission of Inquiry in Rustenburg on Tuesday.
Miner Mzoxolo Magidiwana would spend a second day this week giving evidence on his version of the Marikana shooting.
On Monday, Karel Tip, for NUM, started his cross-examination to gain clarity on why miners who were not rock drill operators embarked on an illegal strike in August last year.
Before the commission was adjourned, it heard that Magidiwana was not a rock drill operator but that all mineworkers at Lonmin Platinum mine wanted R12,500 per month and went on strike.
Monday was spent with advocate Vuyani Ngalwana, for the police, questioning Magidiwana's version of the police's conduct when he was shot, and the rituals of a warrior group known as the Makarapa.
