Minister denies diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg is a target in jail
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
Diamond dealer, Louis Liebenberg alleges he has suffered inhumane treatment in prison, orchestrated by officials acting under ministerial instruction.

Correctional Services minister Dr Pieter Groenewald has since denied the allegations and is urging Liebenberg to identify the officials and provide evidence to support his claims.
The minister says Liebenberg will be treated like any other detainee.
Louis Liebenberg's legal team revealed that upon his transfer to the Kgoši Mampuru II Correctional Facility in Pretoria, he encountered two officials who seemed to have been briefed beforehand about his arrival.
Liebenberg claims the Minister ordered officials to mistreat him.
Liebenberg’s legal council further alleged in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates’ Court that he overheard conversations indicating a deliberate campaign against him.
Liebenberg and eight others, including his wife, appeared in the Court on Thursday.
They face charges of fraud, theft and racketeering.
The accused are allegedly linked to a massive R4 billion diamond investment scam, defrauding thousands of investors.
Liebenberg and his wife remain the sole defendants yet to seek bail, with the prosecution poised to contest their requests.
Bail proceedings for Liebenberg and his wife have been pontponed until 15 November 2024.
