Mkhwebane lashes out at ‘personal insults’ by Gordhan

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has lashed out at Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan's court application to interdict her latest findings against him.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mkhwebane said the application “is laced with the indignity of personal insults”.
She added that while it is Gordhan’s right to lodge review proceedings, the insults are below the dignity of a cabinet minister.
Gordhan lodged an urgent application in the high court in Pretoria on Wednesday to interdict Mkhwebane’s remedial actions.
In his affidavit, Gordhan claimed that Mkhwebane’s office and powers had become “weaponised” in the political battle over state capture.
Mkhwebane’s findings relate to the so-called “Sars Rogue Unit”, the early retirement granted to former Sars deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay and Gordhan’s meeting with one of the Gupta brothers.
Mkhwebane’s spokesperson Oupa Segalwe says she will be defending the matter as she has full confidence in the veracity of her findings.
