Modimolle elects DA mayor

The DA's Marlene van Staden has been elected mayor of the Mookgophong/Modimolle Local Municipality at its inaugural council meeting on Tuesday.

The newly-merged municipality is one of two hung municipalities in Limpopo where no party managed to secure an outright majority at the recent polls.
Van Staden said she's determined to change things.
"The plans are to actually go through the DA's 100 Day Plan; to look at what previously happened in the municipality, to make a prioritising list to make sure that we know exactly what we want to do and then start with the top one first and moving down and making sure we tackle - firstly - water, electricity, all the basic services, roads that need some attention and anything to do with basic service delivery in our whole municipality," she said.
The party's Johann Abrie has also been elected as Speaker.
Van Staden reassured hard working officials, but warned those who did not serve the people.
