More than 15 000 healthcare workers vaccinated in SA in first 5 days

Over 15 000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated across South Africa in the first 5 days since the Johnson & Johnson vaccines were rolled out on Wednesday last week.

Health Miniter, Zweli Mkhize says by Sunday evening, the number of frontline healthcare workers vaccinated currently stands at 15 388.
Mkhize released the latest statistics on Sunday – which also show that there has been an increase of 1 429 new cases in over the latest 24-hour period.
Furthermore, 113 more deaths have been recorded with the North West accounting for 69 new related deaths, Gauteng 17 and the Free State 12.

The Western Cape has recorded 10 new fatalities, while the Eastern and Northern Cape recorded 2 each and KwaZulu-Natal reported 1 new death.
This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 49 053.
The country’s recovery rate now stands at 93.8%.
