More than 500 000 submissions received on land expropriation

The Constitutional Review Committee says it has received around 613 000 submissions on land expropriation without compensation.

The clock is ticking for South Africans to submit their comments on how land expropriation without compensation should be enacted.
The committee set the deadline for close of business on Friday.
“Submissions will be allowed until the last minute," says chairperson Vincent Smith.
Those who had summited but want to supplement their submission with oral evidence will also be allowed to do so in August.
The committee will also embark on a campaign accross all nine provinces to consult South Africans.
There is also a court challenge by Afriforum to determine if the process is constitutional.
The civil rights group argues the process to change Section 25 of the Constitution is unconstitutional.
"We will take all of them seriously. Those who want to help us improve the process are more than welcome to do so, and of cause those who that feel that the process is unfair will always have the right to go for a review judicially," says Smith.
