Gauteng Premier David Makhura has welcomed contributions by car manufacturers BMW and Nissan to help the provincial government build a field hospital.

Makhura and his executive briefed the media on its battle against the increase in Covid-19 cases on Thursday.
The province recorded an increase of 326 confirmed coronavirus cases over the past seven days.
This brought to a total number of confirmed cases in Gauteng to 2 400 on Monday.

Makhura said while the province has over 8 300 beds available at both public and private facilities, it is not enough for a worst-case scenario.
"Yesterday, we welcomed the contribution that BMW and Nissan in Rossyln want to do in setting up a field hospital in partnership with the government. We welcome this initiative because it will add more ICU beds for us."
Of the 62 people who were receiving treatment in various hospitals in the province on Monday, four were in ICU.
