‘The more, the merrier,’ government welcomes Newzroom Afrika
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Government has welcomed the launch of Newzroom Afrika, a 24-hour news channel launched on the DStv-platform.

Africa’s news lovers are being spoilt for choice after the third South African news channel, Newzroom Afrika, went live on Thursday.
“It brings in a wider diversity of information. As government we would like to congratulate them and looking forward to working with them,” says government spokesperson Phumla Williams.
The channel was previously occupied by AfroWorldView but pay-tv producer MultiChoice decided not to renew its contract.
AfroWorldView evolved from the Gupta-owned ANN7.
Williams expressed government’s appeal towards the age of the channel's founders – urging youth to follow in the footsteps "to see themselves as working for somebody but starting their own thing".
The CEO’s are Thabile Ngwato and Thokozani Nkosi.
“He’s a newcomer who is bringing a different perspective on how they’ll provide information to South Africans. The key thing is that we would like as wide as possible information being brought forward. We are very excited.”
