This time the pylons collapsed in Hammanskraal.

Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi says the pylons collapsed along the R101 on Monday evening.

Qithi says that fortunately there was no interruption to power supply.

“Plans are underway to rebuild the infrastructure as the integrity of the towers was compromised beyond repair. The theft of tower members leads to the instability and collapse of the pylons that carry high voltage power lines, which then poses a serious safety risk to members of the public and often results in the interruption of supply.”

This incident is the second in less than a week.

On Sunday seven pylons collapsed along the N4, leaving large parts of Pretoria without power.

Since then Eskom has replaced the pylons with three monopoles.
