Mothibi assures MPs: SIU on trail of PPE corruption suspects
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) Advocate Andy Mothibi has assured MPs that action is being taken against everyone involved in the dodgy PPE contracts issued to Ledla Structural Development.

Ledla is allegedly a “proxy” for Royal Bhaca, the company owned by Thandisiwe Diko, the husband of suspended presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko.
Mothibi appeared before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) on Wednesday.
“I can assure the committee that action is being taken. Some of those have been included in the referrals against the CFO, against the head of the SCM, against the head of the department and against the MEC (of Health in Gauteng).
“As we speak those actions are being taken we are monitoring the disciplinary processes, a criminal investigation is underway relating to the corruption that we want to go deep into. Hawks, NPA, we are supporting that investigation.”
Last year, during the start of the pandemic, Ledla structural company received a whopping R139 million worth of PPEs contracts.

Since then, the SIU has managed to stop the payment of R100 million.
A total of R39 million was paid to Ledla while R24 million has been forfeited to the state.
Last week during the delivery into his report, Advocate Mothibi announced that a whopping R13 billion had been looted through PPE contracts between April and November 2020.
