Defence Minister Angie Motshekga says the South African National Defence Force remain capable to defend and protect the country despite budget cuts.

The SANDF has been facing significant budget cuts, raising concerns about its operational capabilities and ability to fulfill its constitutional mandate.
Motshekga was answering questions in the National Council of Provinces on Tuesday.
The 2025/26 defence budget is R57.1 billion, after R1.2 billion was injected to ensure a the smooth withdrawal of the peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"We are very confident that we will be able to protect our territorial integrity. Albeit all the challenges of defunding, we can assure you that we can protect our sea, our skies and the land,"
"We could do with more if the budget situation changes. Even being able to participate in other defense activities outside our country, we're capable of doing that, despite the current budgetary challenges," Motshekga said.
