Mpumalanga woman in court for kidnapping newborn baby

A 38-year-old woman has appeared in court after she was caught stealing a newborn baby at a taxi rank in Embalenhle, near Secunda on Thursday.
The suspect appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on a charge of kidnapping.
“The suspect introduced herself claiming to be a social worker. During the conversation, the suspect asked the mother to go buy her food at the nearby shop while she holds the baby. When the mother returned, she found that the suspect disappeared with her baby,” says police spokesperson Selvy Mohala.
“She then reported the matter to the police, and an investigation into the matter was launched immediately. Police made a breakthrough which led them to a house at Extension 5 in Embalenhle, they found the stolen baby inside the house with the suspect.”
The case has been postponed to 19 November for a bail application.
