Mudslide kills two in rain-hit KZN

A woman and a man have lost their lives in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

They were buried in a mudslide that swept into their home on Thursday morning.
Emergency services say the structural collapse happened in the early morning due to heavy downpours.
Officials, including the eThekwini Fire Department, were at the scene.
"It is believed that a family were staying in this house, a mother, father and some children," says ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
"It is believed that, at this stage, the kids managed to escape, and they are about to start to dig away to try and gain access to where they may be trapped. We are waiting for more resources to come through, as well as heavy-duty equipment."
He says bystanders told them the children escaped to a neighbour's home.
Jamieson says another person's been entrapped in their home in Adams, about nine kilometres away.
"We will know once we dig down into the actual incident, breaking into the concrete. They are also starting to prepare trying to excavate the sand and rubble and try to find the missing person."
