N3 remains closed, SANDF deployed to secure highway

The N3 toll route between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Harrismith in the Free State remains closed to traffic.

The route was closed on Monday due to safety concerns amid the widespread violence and looting in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Several trucks on the N3 at the Mooi River Plaza in KwaZulu-Natal also were set alight on Friday.
It is currently is only open to traffic between Harrismith in the Free State and Heidelberg in Gauteng.
"The SANDF has been mobilised and is being deployed on the route. In consultation with law enforcement agencies, plans are being put in place to prepare for the re-opening of the route," says Thania Dhoogra, operations manager at N3 Toll Concession.
"Apart from ensuring safety and security along the N3, urgent maintenance work, including recovery, cleanup, and repair work is required before the road can be safely reopened.”
