National Lotteries Commission says business as usual amid SIU raid
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) says its daily operations will not be affected by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) raids at its head office in Pretoria.

Investigators from the SIU raided the organisation’s offices in Hatfield on Tuesday morning.
This raid follows the signing of a proclamation by President Cyril Ramaphosa in November, authorising the SIU to investigate alleged corruption and maladministration involving the NLC.
NLC spokesperson Ndivhuvo Mafela says the organisation will cooperate with the investigations.
“We obviously were informed (of the raid) because the proclamation was done some time back and we knew we didn’t have any surprise to it. Our issue is that we welcome the SIU to our offices, we don’t necessary have anything further to say for as much that we will wait the outcome of this investigation.”

The raid follows the signing of a proclamation by President Cyril Ramaphosa in November, authorising the SIU to investigate alleged corruption and maladministration involving the NLC. SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says they managed to obtain a search-and-seizure warrant.
Mafela says the raid will not affect daily operations.
“The SIU when they came in, they gave us a list of the kind of information they are looking for which we need to provide to them. So for us is business as usual, the investigations doesn’t in anyway affect the operations and mandate of the NLC.
“Non-profit organisations will continue to be funded to uplift our communities in the rural areas and urban areas, so the investigations doesn’t in any way affect the mandate and the operations of the NLC.”
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition is expected to release a report after investigating several NLC projects during the Covid-19 lockdown.
