NCOP rejects Nkabane budget vote amid calls for her removal

Minister of Higher Education and Training Nobuhle Nkabane has fired back at political parties that rejected her department’s budget vote in Parliament.

On Tuesday, Nkabane delivered the department's budget vote speech in the National Council of Provinces in Cape Town.
However, it was rejected by majority of the parties including the DA, MK Party and EFF.
Nkabane is under pressure to resign amid allegations that she lied to Parliament over an advisory panel purportedly responsible for appointing the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) board chairs.
Earlier in the day, the DA laid criminal charges against Nkabane for misleading Parliament.
"It's a pity and unfortunate. Those who are rejecting the budget are rejecting the transformation of the post-school education and training sector in South Africa,” Nkabane told the NCOP.
"This is not the budget of Nobuhle Nkabane, it’s a budget of the people of South Africa.”
Nkabane labelled the calls for her removal as “anti-transformation”.
"When you are against transformation, it irritates a lot when you see a young woman leading such a huge ministry in your presence. It's misogyny.
"I know where it is coming from, and when it is a black woman, it becomes irritational," she added.
