New Covid-19 cases fall below 10 000

The number of new Covid-19 cases reported in one day, dipped to below 10 000 on Sunday.

Statistics released on Sunday by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases show that 9 718 new cases were reported in the latest 24-hour period.
The latest increase in infections represents a 26.6% positivity rate.
However, 287 new Covid-19 related deaths were reported on the day bringing the country’s total fatalities to 69 775.

Gauteng – which has been the epicentre of South Africa’s third wave continues to account for the majority of new cases at 28%.
The province is closely followed by the Western Cape at 25% and KwaZulu-Natal at 14%.
