Nomsa Jas’ alleged killer appears in Carletonville court

The man accused of kidnapping a North West woman made his first appearance before the Carletonville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Nomsa Jas’s body was discovered in the bushes along the R501 at Blybank, in Carletonville, nearly two weeks after she was last seen at her place of work in Potchefstroom.

Jas’ stolen VW Polo Vibo was found in Springs, on the east rand, while her lifeless body was discovered kilometers away in the bush along the R501 at Blybank, in Carletonville.

A joint operation between police in the North West and Gauteng led to the arrest of 29-year-old Sinethembe Mabaso who faces charges of murder and motor vehicle theft.

North West police spokesperson Amanda Funani says they’ve not ruled out the possibility of more arrests.

“Investigations into the matter, including searching for the other suspects, is underway.”

The case was remanded to 16 September for legal aid representation and possible bail application.
