The teacher allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old pupil at the school in 2024.

According to the organisation, the alleged incident came to light after the pupil's father raised concerns about the sudden drop in her academic performance and pursued the matter with school authorities.

It was then that the pupil confided in her father, revealing that she was no longer happy or comfortable at the school because the teacher had sexually assaulted her.

NotInMyName members held a picket outside the school on Monday, calling for the Gauteng Education Department to intervene.

Themba Masango, the organisation's spokesperson, said the school management must be held accountable for failing to protect the victim and create a safe environment for pupils.

“The fact that this was uncovered by a vigilant parent, and not through the school's own safeguarding mechanisms, is a damning indictment of its leadership," said Masango.

He questioned the school’s silence, saying it was puzzling that the teacher was allowed on the school grounds despite the allegations.

“We call upon the SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority to act with speed and diligence to ensure the alleged perpetrator is arrested and faces the full might of the law,” Masango added.

“We demand that the School Governing Body and the Department of Basic Education immediately suspend and subsequently terminate the employment of the accused teacher, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. He must not be allowed near any other children.”
