Notorious cliff near Herolds Bay claims another victim
The man who was killed on Wednesday morning when his rented car plunged down a cliff at Voëlklip near Herolds Bay was not from the Western Cape.
This was confirmed by police who said the name of the deceased will only be released once his next of kin have been informed.
Earlier on Wednesday police in George confirmed that yet another person was killed when his vehicle plunged down the notorious cliff.
The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said police and emergency services found pieces of a white vehicle and spotted a body lying on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff.
ER24 paramedics responded to the scene along with the police, Western Cape Metro Rescue and George and Eden Fire Services.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says the deceased is believed to have been in his forties.
"At the bottom of the cliff rescue personnel found that the man had been ejected from vehicle and had sustained several injuries.
"Once the man had been retrieved, medics found that he had already succumbed to his numerous injuries."
It is also unclear when the incident took place.
Last year a family of three died when their vehicle plunged down a 100 metre cliff.
Six-year-old Cozette Scheepers was in the car with her mother Heidi and brother Hugo.
The bodies of the mother and son were later recovered from the sea near Herolds Bay.
The search for Cozette's body was later called off.

The details of the fatal crash remain sketchy. Spokesperson Steve Mabona says Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is on his way to the school in the south of Johannesburg. "As the department of education in Gauteng we wish to inform sad news that we have already received this afternoon that about three of our educators in Riverlea High School they were involved in a car accident and unfortunately they died.
