NPA: Not enough evidence to hold 2 suspects for Henneman farm murder

The National prosecuting Authority (NPA) says there’s not enough evidence to charge two men accused of killing farmer 56-year-old father Pieter Hills.

Hills was shot dead in an attack in Henneman in the Free State last week.

His son Eddie was left critically injured during the attack and remains in hospital.

Four men were initially arrested but only one has been charged.

One other committed suicide in police custody.

“What I can confirm so far is that it’s only one accused who appeared in Henneman Magistrates Court with regard to murder and attempted murder of a farm and his son,” says the NPA’s regional spokesperson Phaladi Shuping.

“The case against the other accused was not enrolled because there is not enough evidence linking the accused to what happened on Friday but we’re not ruling out the possibility of more people being arrested and more charges against the accused.”

The case against Patrick Bochedi has been postponed to next week Monday.

The matter has also been handed over to the Hawks for further investigations.

“They had a meeting this afternoon with the prosecutor. The meeting was relating to other suspects that might be arrested and those two suspects whose case was not enrolled to see whether there’s any evidence linking them to the commission of this crime,” Shuping adds.
