NUMSA to picket at Denel over salary cuts
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa will picket outside the offices of Denel in Centurion on Wednesday over what it says is the refusal to grant workers a salary increase.

The state-owned military equipment company has allegedly refused to grant workers a salary increase for the past five years.
NUMSA spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi Majola said workers have been exposed to salary cutbacks which have left many of them financially and psychologically devastated.
“Workers at Denel have endured the worst suffering. During the lockdown the company went under business rescue and for months workers did not receive any salaries at all.”
According to the Parliamentary Monitoring Group, after its financial humps, Denel experienced an aggressive increase in export orders between 2021 and 2023, with a 100% revenue growth predicted for the 2025/26 financial year.
“Workers at Denel have suffered unbelievable cruelty at the hands of the board and by extension, government, which has been attempting to privatize the entity,” Hlubi-Majola said, adding that it is angering for their members to continuously protest to get what rightfully belongs to them.
