The family of the lone pupil from Laerskool Blyvooruitsig, killed in the crash that claimed 12 lives, says her brother remains traumatised.

Grade one pupil Reabetswe Rabodiba was one of 11 pupils killed last Wednesday.
The other ten pupils, Junior Mankofu, Khothatso Sesing, Olesego Khesa, Thandeka Mtylibe, Tshiamo Makinta, Katlego Morebudi, and Reneilwe, Sihle, Hlompho and Thato Hlalele; were all from Rockland Primary School in Carletonville.
The driver of the scholar transport also died, while one pupil remains in hospital.
Teboho Nakeni spoke on behalf of the Rabodiba family, relaying the trauma experienced by the seven-year-old’s brother, who was one of eight pupils who survived the crash.
“She was with her older brother. He managed to get out of the kombi. Even now, that boy is not okay; he is only 12 years old. The trauma he has now will be for a lifetime.”
Nakeni said the children’s parents were battling to come to terms with their loss and couldn’t attend the memorial service.
ONE PUPIL IN HOSPITAL
One of the survivors of the deadly scholar transport accident in Carletonville remains in hospital.
This is according to the Gauteng Education, Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Matome Chiloane.
He delivered the keynote address at the memorial service held at the Grace Bible Church in Carletonville.
Chiloane pledged his continued support for the survivors of the crash and the bereaved families.
The MEC said he had received an update on the pupil from his counterpart in the Health Department, Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko.
“She has said to me: ‘I have been to the hospital to check the child. I continue to monitor the situation closely, and I remain hopeful that the child will eventually recover’.”
Chiloane said counselling services for the affected will remain available.
“We will be extending our counselling support even beyond the day we put our children to rest.”
He cautioned against the pointing of fingers in this period, saying the focus should be on supporting the grieving families and school communities as they mourn the lives that have been lost.
