Online car sale criminal syndicate nabbed in Klerksdorp

North West Police have arrested a criminal syndicate that has been targeting car buyers on social media in Klerksdorp.

Acting on a tip-off on Friday, police pounced on the eight suspects who were about to rob an unsuspecting potential buyer.
The suspects' modus operandi is by advertising a Toyota Avanza on social media and lure victims to a house in Jouberton where the transaction would happen.
However, during the sale a group of suspects would come to the house and rob the victims.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the latest incident was the second event after another one was reported last month at the same house.
"The suspects tried to scam and rob the potential buyer who responded to the advertisement of the same Toyota Avanza, but the vigilant police pounced on the suspects."
"One of the suspects was found in possession of a police officer’s appointment card," he added.
The men aged between 25 and 48 are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of armed robbery and impersonating a police officer.
