Between Friday and Sunday, the City of Ekurhuleni recorded 69 arrests, Sedibeng District Municipality recorded 80 arrests, while Tshwane recorded the highest number of arrests, with 96 suspects taken into custody.

The City of Johannesburg recorded the lowest number of arrests, with 18 arrests.

The suspects were charged with various crimes, including drinking and driving, possession of drugs, theft, and contravention of the Immigration Act.

“The department commends the law enforcement officials for their continued efforts in collaborating and making these arrests. Drinking and driving, public drinking, possession of drugs and dealing in drugs are a sore thorn that officials are continuously dealing with decisively,” said Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson, Ofentse Morwane.

Recently, in his fourth quarter crime statistics release in Tshwane, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu lauded the impact of Operation Shanela, saying it continues to deliver results, with 1,641 illegal firearms and 24,288 rounds of ammunition seized between January and March 2025.
