Petition seeking removal of Joburg Mayor's reaches 10K
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
More than 10 000 people have signed an online petition calling for the removal of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero.

Pressure is mounting on Morero, who was appointed to the position two weeks ago, to step down after he proposed the recruitment of foreign nationals into the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) to address rampant crime.
On Monday, Morero was forced to apologise after a video of him addressing an ANC meeting went viral on social media.
In his capacity as ANC regional chairperson, he suggested that foreign nationals, who are legally in the country, should be hired to assist with language interpretation barriers during crime prevention operations.
This was, however, met with widespread criticism and calls for him to be removed as mayor.
Morero, who was the former City of Johannesburg’s MMC for finance, was elected as mayor after Kabelo Gwamanda, from the Al Jamah Party, resigned.
