Cape Town fire and rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says emergency personnel rushed to the scene just after the emergency call.
"At about 09H20 the city's fire and rescue service received an emergency call of a roof collapse at Somerset Mall near Entrance 1," says Carelse.
"Fire crews were quickly on the scene and found a section of the ceiling approximately 50 metres that had collapse."
It's not yet known what caused the collapse.
