Police killer sentenced to 241 years for Ngcobo massacre

The High Court in Mthatha has sentenced one of the men who attacked the Ngcobo Police station in 2018 to 241 years in prison.

During the incident, five police officers were gunned down after they managed to trace the suspects to a local church.
The suspects robbed the police station of several firearms and bulletproof vests that were recovered by the police during a raid at the church.
A shootout ensued and police killed seven suspects that included three of the church leaders.
Convicted murder 23-year-old Siphesihle Tatsi who was also a church member pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Tuesday.
Tatsi was sentenced was convicted of conspiracy to murder, murder, robbery with aggregated circumstances sentenced to 10 years, attempted murder, housebreaking, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale says the will spend an effective 18 years behind bars as 19 of the counts will run concurrently.
"Phumzile Mhlatywa (50), Phandani Monco (35), Kwanele Ndlwana (27) and Siphosomzi Tshefu chose to follow the normal trial route while their co- accused pleaded guilty for 22 counts which among others include six murders, attempted murders, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as malicious damage to property."
"The case against his co-accused is still in court and will be finalised on 15 September 2023."
