A shootout in Percy Five Road in Polokwane has left one person seriously injured.

The shooting is said to be linked to taxi violence in Polokwane, which has led to malicious damage to property.
The violence started on Thursday just outside Mall of the North where members of a taxi association blockaded the road and obstructed traffic with intentions of stopping a rival association from operating.
The provincial Department of Transport spokesperson, Matome Taueatsoala, says a sedan was torched during the commotion.

"This morning, two shooting incidents were reported on the Dendron and Percy five roads. One person was seriously injured from the Percy Five road shooting incident while a taxi was torched on the Dendron road. MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya says taxi operators are not above the law and those responsible for the shooting will face the might of the law," Taueatsoala said.
He says department officials will meet with the provincial and Capricorn District Taxi Council’s conflict resolution team on Friday to resolve the impasse.
Taueatsoala adds that the officials also intend to meet with SANTACO.
